In an effort to establish an area for which our teens and young adults can mingle, play, learn and entertain, Ithaca Festival organizers have decided to incorporate a Teen Activity Zone into our program in '08. Oh no! a massive mosh pit; NOT!
On Friday June 20th, just as final exams come to an end and Prom weekend starts to get jiggy, Stewart Park comes alive with the sounds of tomorrows’ superstars. From 12 noon until 4pm, the Main Stage and MuseFest Solar Stage will host a steady line-up of independent bands and performers who have yet to receive a HS diploma (or armpit hair :).
In addition to this “Sonic Youth” experience, we are working with Comet Skate Boards and Judahites Productions to build a "Consciousness in Motion" BMX and Skate Park aiming to demonstrate an empowered, healthy and balanced lifestyle by presenting environmental and social awareness to the youth of today in a fun and creative way.
The area will consist of a Skateboard and BMX Park, interactive art gallery, "Green" exhibitor, sponsor and vendor area. The art gallery and mobile mural project will be made available to bring out their expression of personal creativity and introduce them to other local artists and their talents. Positive Self Expression; Go!
As part of our commitment to sustainability and our community, all of the ramps for the Skatepark will be built by I-Fest Volunteers and donated to the new in-door skate park being built by local youth entrepreneurs in Lansing, NY.
We believe that the youth are the future and it is our job to make sure that they have the tools and infrastructure for them to succeed; so, why not encourage them to have fun while building trust, compassion and community?!
